Why I Choose Greater Gainesville: Kip Harrison
Kip Harrison is the former Community Bank President of Capital City Bank Group, where he specializes in construction loans, commercial real estate lending, credit analysis and commercial banking services. He is a longtime member of the Gainesville Rotary Club and currently serves on the board of Habitat for Humanity, Housing Finance Authority of Alachua County and the North Central Florida YMCA.
Greater Gainesville is a special place to live, both personally and professionally. I am thankful that this is where my children grew up. It is a wonderful community in which to raise a family.
I appreciate the University of Florida’s influence and their impact on the educational system in Greater Gainesville for people of all ages. Their Eye Opener Breakfast event is one I regularly attend to hear excellent speakers discuss timely issues. I am also very pleased with the education both of my children have received through the public school system here.
As a family, we have been able to enjoy many outdoor activities year-round. We love going to the beaches and being on the water together, paddle boarding, boating, tubing, canoeing and water skiing. We also attend many Gator sporting events, from football to basketball to softball. When we want to take a trip, the convenient access to airports and the abundant flight choices make traveling easy.
I am originally from Jackson, Mississippi, where I attended the University of Mississippi and started my career. I was always drawn to the gorgeous Florida weather whenever I visited my grandparents. When I was offered a job opportunity here, I welcomed the chance to relocate. Over 32 years later I am still here.
As a community bank president, I made decisions on a local level, connected with people and contributed to the Greater Gainesville area. I am fortunate to have worked for a company that prioritizes both giving back to the community and developing long-standing relationships with customers.
I am especially proud of the impact of the Capital City Bank Group Foundation, which provides grants to nonprofit, charitable organizations to fulfill their mission and enhance the lives of local citizens. We encouraged employees to get involved by volunteering with their children’s schools or sports teams.
Greater Gainesville is an ideal community. It offers many opportunities for individuals, families and businesses to succeed.
