While looking for a college to attend, I researched several options. And honestly, after living in Kansas with a last winter where, with windchill, the weather was reported as “feels like negative 52”, I was out. My criteria was a place that has no snow, and a top engineering school — and like manna from the Gods, Gainesville, Florida, became my top choice. I attended the University of Florida and could not be more proud. As I attended school and grew my career, I met someone and had a family, which kept me grounded. At first I thought I needed to leave when I was done with school. And I did — five times I left, and returned each time. After that many times, it was clear I am meant to be in Gainesville. Over the years I have become heavily involved in the community, and have come to find that the friends I’ve made are irreplaceable. The business networks are even that much more phenomenal. This community has a great way of being collaborative; you are never alone. It’s so easy to reach out and get support. This ability to connect and network was part of the reason I decided to start a business, Gainesville Dev Academy. Where else could you go and get support and partnerships from major educational institutions?

Raising a family in Gainesville is by far the best part of living here. Growing up in New York, the influences you are surrounded by in inner city areas were not conducive to family. I have watched my children go through great educational systems with quality friends, and I know they will be successful.

Perhaps there are other places around that share the same qualities — and I have travelled to many places — but Gainesville has been by far the best place to live, work and raise a family.  If you have any doubt, I encourage you to meet with me and let me help you discover the best city to live in — Gainesville.
