The Malcom Randall Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center in Gainesville is a part of the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System. It is a highly specialized care facility that is also an active teaching hospital, with medical specialists performing advanced and complex procedures in state-of-the-art facilities. The Alachua County school system is governed by a five-member board with members serving staggered, four-year terms. Board members are elected from five geographic districts in nonpartisan elections, and all represent the entire county. The School Board of Alachua County is responsible for all public schools in the district and for the hiring of a superintendent to oversee the day-to-day operations. The district serves about 27,000 students in 41 schools and centers. It is among the top performing school districts in Florida. The district boasts more than 378 partnerships with local businesses and organizations which provide about $2.9 million worth of resources to our schools annually.
