The Heart of Community, Commerce and Creativity
Many people focus on Gainesville when contemplating business location or expansion in Greater Gainesville. However, Greater Gainesville hosts nine great communities, each with its own individual charm, character and strengths.
ALACHUA
Alachua County’s second largest community is known as The Good Life Community. Founded on trail crossings, which grew to rails, Alachua’s connection to commerce is now served by U.S. Route 441 and Interstate 75. The city’s access and transportation connections have enhanced employment opportunities ranging from life sciences research and development to logistics and distribution. Progress Park, the city’s burgeoning biotech facility, exists harmoniously with agricultural neighbors and San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park, which has miles of biking, walking and equestrian trails.
ARCHER
Named after Florida’s first secretary of state, Archer maintains small-town charm, historic character, and memories of the railroad that connected the city to commerce and opportunity. Santa Fe College’s new satellite campus provides higher education opportunities to both Archer and southwest Alachua County residents.
HAWTHORNE
At the crossroads of history and Florida’s original highway, U.S. Route 301, the City of Hawthorne boasts a pioneer-town feel. With numerous lakes and recreational opportunities, the city is home to the Gainesville/Hawthorne Trail’s eastern trailhead. The 17-mile pathway provides thousands of county residents and visitors with access and a window to rural Florida not often seen by tourists.
HIGH SPRINGS
Springs are in the name, but there’s also history and art throughout the city. Downtown is home to numerous galleries and antique stores, and High Springs also provides access to the Santa Fe River with numerous swimming and diving resources.
JONESVILLE
Alachua County’s growing community just west of Interstate 75 is host to a vibrant mix of residential, professional and retail offerings. Centrally located in western Alachua County, Jonesville offers convenient access to Alachua County’s western cities.
LACROSSE
The town’s farming economy reflects the nature of the original Florida.
MICANOPY
Steeped in history and the southern gateway to Paynes Prairie, the town’s quiet character and relaxed lifestyle harken back to the turn of the century.
NEWBERRY
Historic Main Street, recreation and so much more exist in western Alachua County. Newberry’s agricultural history and growing economy provide opportunities for new businesses and a home for many who cherish the small-town lifestyle.
WALDO
Located at the intersection of U.S. Route 301, State Road 24 and the CSX railroad, Waldo retains the small-town charm. A stop at the Farmers and Flea Market is always worthwhile. Throughout Greater Gainesville, there are numerous social, cultural, educational and business opportunities. Coordination between chambers of commerce, the League of Cities and the collective business environment yields great success in North Central Florida. Strong transportation networks enhance opportunity and commerce, linking communities to the regional airport that offers daily connections to international airports and shipping centers. North Central Florida’s strength is enhanced by the balance of commerce and connection to Florida’s natural environment and recreation, accessible to all residents and lucky visitors.
