Meeting Students Where They Are
These days, students are taking classes on campus, online, and around the globe — that’s why the Career Connections Center has expanded their services beyond the walls of their main office in the J. Wayne Reitz Union and provides career services to students wherever they are.
Career connections are the priority of the career center. The career center staff are trained, certified career coaches dedicated to connecting students and alumni to specialized career services, meaningful career experiences and employment opportunities.
Career Coaches not only serve as the primary point of contact for students, but also foster relationships with industry leaders who employ UF students. By working with industry partners, career coaches not only develop an understanding of our diverse business sectors but also the changing workforce ahead.
Ja’Net Glover, Senior Director for Career Services said, “Industry engagement is a core priority for our center and connecting our students to the business community is critical to student success.”
The career center hosts several programs throughout the year to expose students to career options in the local community. Opportunities like Career Treks allow students to visit local employers to gain industry knowledge and learn new skills as it relates to their career interests.
Glover said, “The Greater Gainesville area provides an array of employment options for not only permanent residents but students alike.”
“The Career Connections Center is known for being a champion for experience and connecting students to our local community. From part-time jobs, internships, volunteering and shadowing experiences, the Gainesville community has it all and more for learning and professional development. These real-world opportunities create formative experiences for students, helping them to bridge inspiration to action.”
