Startups Spotlight: 42Bio Inc.

Gainesville, Florida, is home to a new startup revolutionizing the healthcare industry. 42Bio Inc. is a biotechnology company developing innovative solutions covering various applications from regenerative and veterinarian medicine, to magnetic separation.

The company, originally spun out of the University of Florida, designed, developed and implemented two different cutting-edge solutions to address the world’s most pressing healthcare issues.

Science fiction fans will also understand 42Bio’s logo referencing the answer from the supercomputer in the book, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. 42Bio has definitely found solutions to many quandaries in biotechnology.

New Technology in Regenerative Medicine

42Bio Inc., has recently made great strides in regenerative and veterinary medicine. The company has developed a technology that utilizes placental complex, or PC, as a source of bioactive molecules to assist in tissue regeneration and healing.

President of 42Bio Inc., Shabnam Namin, Ph.D., or Dr. Shab for short, explains this complex technology.

“Placental material has many potential applications in medical and veterinary fields. It is a complex mixture of bioactive molecules, including growth factors, cytokines and proteins, naturally derived from placental tissue. These molecules can help regenerate and repair damaged tissues and promote wound healing and tissue repair. This is why PC is so beneficial in regenerative and veterinary medicine.”

42Bio has developed a proprietary process to isolate and purify PC and has created a unique formulation that can be used as a therapeutic agent.

The potential of 42Bio’s PC formulation is vast, and the company has already made significant progress in developing innovative therapies. From developing treatments for osteoarthritis and tendon injuries in humans to treatments for bone fractures and wound healing in animals, the company’s PC technology will revolutionize the field of medicine.

Separating biological components from a fluid system

Magnetic Separation with FerroBio™ technology uses proprietary devices and magnetic fields to separate magnetically bound particles from other substances. This technology is highly precise and can separate various substances, including cells, proteins and other biomolecules.

In regenerative research, Magnetic Separation with FerroBio™ can isolate therapeutic cells from other materials. This allows for greater accuracy and efficiency in future cell-based treatments. In veterinary medicine, the technology isolates pathogens from animal samples, allowing for faster diagnosis and improved treatments.

According to Dr. Shab, in addition to its potential applications in regenerative and veterinary medicine, Magnetic Separation with FerroBio™ can also be used in other areas. For example, in the development of biodegradable materials, in the production of food and beverages, and in the production of pharmaceuticals.

Vital incubators developing solutions for startups

42Bio Inc. is actively collaborating with the Hub at UF Innovate and Sid Martin Biotech to develop their solutions.

“We have relied on their testing capabilities, which are super valuable for a small startup that can’t afford to purchase this costly equipment. Also, the associates and the people at the Hub and these incubators really want you to succeed. They offer webinars and seminars that provide valuable networking opportunities we would not have had if we were offsite,” says Dr. Shab.

The company has conducted extensive research and clinical case studies to demonstrate the safety and efficacy of its PC formulations. The results of these trials have been promising.

With their cutting-edge technology and experienced team, 42Bio Inc. is poised to become a leader in the healthcare industry. They are dedicated to providing innovative solutions to improve patients’ lives and reduce healthcare costs.
