Downtown job fair allows employers, job seekers to display talent
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Start Up Downtown is the first exhibition of its kind to come to Gainesville. With a focus on students and technically-skilled job seekers interested in joining the emerging Gainesville startup culture, it also provides local startups the chance to show off to the community.
Start Up Downtown is hosted by FloridaWorks in partnership with the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce (GACC) and Innovation Gainesville (iG). The event was developed by GIT (Gainesville Information Technology), an IT taskforce assembled by FloridaWorks and GACC.
On Thursday, July 18, the second floor balcony of Union Street Station, 201 SE 2nd Ave., will transform from business walkways to a downtown hot spot for startup companies recruiting talent. The event runs from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Attendees will be able to meet and network with representatives from local startups. In addition to the job fair area, there will be walking tours of downtown startups such as Grooveshark and live demos by HackerHouse cadets. The event will also feature the networking app Feathr, created by the local startup of the same name.
Nearby businesses Vellos, 101 Downtown and Half Cork’d are offering extended specials for the event. McGurn Investment Company will validate parking in the SE 2nd Avenue garage for attendees.
All attendees are encouraged to register at EmployFlorida.com in advance to view job descriptions of participating employers. There also will be a registration area at check-in for the event. Attendees can also access event information at FWStartUpDowntown.eventbrite.com.
