At RTI Surgical, their mission is to do good in every sense of the word. The medical technology company, founded in 1998 as a spinoff of the University of Florida, is in the business of improving the quality of life. From its products assisting patients in hospitals to its involvement in community nonprofits and causes, RTI Surgical strives to help those most in need.
This year, RTI Surgical is sponsoring the annual Fierce Awards, which honors inspirational women who have made a difference in their community.
“Diversity, equity and inclusion is important to us,” said Amelia Bell, Communications Manager for RTI Surgical. “Women are significantly underrepresented in leadership in both business and politics.”
The company was excited when the opportunity to sponsor Fierce came up. They were interested in finding ways to increase their commitment to empowering, encouraging and supporting women.
“We were drawn to Fierce since it not only celebrates women making a difference, but also because it provides funds for scholarships for single moms,” Bell said.
Outside of Fierce, RTI is involved in a number of different charitable causes. They have participated in the annual community campaign for United Way, as well as projects with Peaceful Paths, Bread of the Mighty and Arbor House.
For many people, the work that RTI Surgical does is life changing. By providing much-needed surgical implants, as well as regenerative, donated human tissue, RTI is in the business of improving the lives of more than 500,000 patients each year.
“We’re always looking to find new ways to help patients,” Bell said. “We’re always hoping to spark innovation.”
At RTI, the focus is on their community. As a large employer in Greater Gainesville, the company recognizes the role and responsibility it has to employees, potential employees and the public at large. Most importantly, at RTI, employees believe strongly in their purpose.
“The employees and the leadership teams want to make a positive impact on their communities. Future generations can benefit from what we can offer,” Bell said.
Thanks in part to companies like RTI Surgical and institutions like the University of Florida Shands Hospital, Greater Gainesville has become a hub for the life sciences community. With a constant influx of excellent students and brilliant new minds, the opportunity to innovate and evolve in this field is rife.
