Jeremy Marshall
The High Springs City Commission has unanimously voted to appoint Jeremy Marshall as the new city manager, following the resignation of Ashley Stathatos in November. Marshall, who holds a bachelor’s in business administration and is pursuing a master’s degree, previously served as administrator of Valley, Nebraska, in 2022, and chaired the Zoning Board of Appeals in Farmington, New York. Marshall was one of two candidates who were interviewed as finalists before the commission’s decision. While contract negotiations commence, a temporary management arrangement will be led by Police Chief Antoine Sheppard, City Clerk Angela Stone and Public Works Director Thomas Henry.
Dr. Stephen Motew
Dr. Stephen J. Motew has been appointed as the president and CEO of the UF Health clinical enterprise by the University of Florida, effective April 1. With over three decades of experience as a practicing vascular surgeon, Motew joins UF Health from the Inova Health System in Falls Church, Virginia, where he held the position of chief of clinical enterprise and executive vice president. He will succeed Dr. David Nelson, who served as UF Health president and senior vice president for health affairs since 2019. Motew will lead UF Health’s integrated patient care system, overseeing its various programs and alliances throughout Florida. This appointment aligns with UF Health’s long-term plan for growth, aiming to enhance patient-focused quality clinical care and innovation. Motew’s responsibilities will include spearheading the implementation of a new corporate structure for UF Health’s clinical system, focusing on transparency and strategic goal setting.
Nathan Wei
Nathan Wei, a senior at Buchholz High School, has been awarded $100,000 for his exceptional performance in the renowned Regeneron Science Talent Search. Wei secured 4th place in the competition’s finals held in Washington, D.C. Among 40 finalists chosen from a pool of nearly 2200 applicants worldwide, Wei presented his project titled ‘Novel Elastomeric Polystyrene via Photopolymerization and Post-Functionalization of Durable Ultra-High Molecular Weight Perfluorostyrene Copolymers.’ This innovative research focuses on developing robust, recyclable plastic sourced from renewable materials. Recognized for his outstanding research, leadership and academic commitment, Wei is also a 2024 National Merit finalist. He excelled in the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, demonstrating his academic prowess. Wei’s achievements extend to his participation in Buchholz High’s national championship math team and qualification for the Florida State Science and Engineering Fair.
Mark Amox
Mark Amox, a seasoned healthcare administrator, has been appointed Chief Operating Officer at HCA Florida North Florida Hospital, overseeing strategic planning and operations. Formerly president/CEO at Unity Health in Searcy, Arkansas, he brings a wealth of experience from roles at HCA Regional Medical Center in San Jose, California, and Children’s Hospital at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in Las Vegas. This appointment marks a return to Gainesville for Amox, having previously served as Hospital Administrator for UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital and Psychiatric and Rehab Hospitals. Amox expresses eagerness to collaborate on growth and innovation, underscoring his commitment to community involvement.
Trevor Wise
The Hippodrome Theatre appointed Trevor Wise as its new managing director, signaling a fresh chapter of leadership. With extensive experience in theatre management and a profound commitment to the arts, Wise is poised to steer The Hippodrome toward ongoing success. Wise’s background includes roles such as finance associate at Gulfshore Playhouse in Naples and director of finance for Ragtag Film Society. He brings a wealth of expertise from his diverse career, blending administrative prowess with a foundation in performance. As the newest addition to The Hippodrome team, Wise is primed to drive the organization forward and strengthen its ties within the community.
