Compassion. Commitment to excellence. Scientific innovation, A passion for educating the next generation of health care professionals and researchers. These are the guide stars followed by the thousands of employees at the University of Florida, UF Health Shands, UF Health Jacksonville and UF Health Central Florida who come to work each day with an overarching vision that infuses everything we do. That mission is to ease the suffering of our patients and to improve the lives of the people of Florida and beyond.
We’ve certainly seen that selfless devotion to our patients by the UF Health employees who have never wavered in their tireless work during the coronavirus pandemic. Even as many people around the world self-isolated, they came to the front lines and cared for those most in need. We salute that fidelity to their patients amid this unprecedented public health emergency.
UF Health brings a comprehensive set of resources to patient care unmatched in the Sunshine State and the Southeast. With an extraordinarily talented faculty and staff, our hospitals, centers, colleges and institutes offer a level of service normally found only in a major metropolitan area.
Indeed, UF Health Shands Hospital has been rated the No. 1 hospital in Florida by U.S. News & World Report in its 2020-21 rankings. UF Health Shands and UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital have a combined 12 nationally ranked specialties, the most of any health system in Florida.
UF Health continues an expansion to bring its brand of excellent patient care to the growing population centers of Northeast and Central Florida. UF Health in 2020 acquired two hospitals from Central Florida Health serving Lake, Sumter and Marion counties, rebranding them as UF Health The Villages® Hospital and UF Health Leesburg Hospital. UF Health also is working with The Villages® to develop a comprehensive health care campus. This comes even as we are expanding our footprint in Jacksonville and Volusia County.
We are more than health care professionals. We are your neighbors. We care deeply about the communities we serve because, in the end, they are our communities, too. And as the following pages show, we are dedicated to giving the best of ourselves as we continue to positively influence the lives of the people of Florida and the Southeast.
So, on behalf of the employees of UF Health, we stand ready to serve whenever you turn to us. We look forward to getting to know you.
David R. Nelson, M.D. Senior Vice President for Health Affairs, UF & President, UF Health
