A List of Some of Greater Gainesville’s Notable Folks and Their Latest Achievements

 

Scott Lewis

Scott Lewis has been promoted to production manager at Comfort Temp. Lewis started as a sheet metal mechanic but has since worked up to foreman and, more recently, superintendent. He has been with Comfort Temp for eight years. Four years into his time with Comfort Temp, he also helped open the Jacksonville office. As production manager, Lewis will lead a team of about 20, coordinating job schedules and production needs. Lewis’ dedication to the job has made him known for wanting to do whatever it takes.

 

 

 

Marcus Acevedo

Marcus Acevedo has been promoted to production manager at Comfort Temp. Acevedo joined Comfort Temp in 2018, new to the HVAC field. Acevedo worked up a lead position with the startup & warranty department. He will now lead a team of about 80 employees in the HVAC and plumbing divisions. Acevedo was sponsored through the Santa Fe Apprenticeship Program by Comfort Temp and graduated at the top of his class.

 

 

 

 

 

Emery Gainey

Emery Gainey has been appointed the new Alachua County sheriff. Gainey was born and raised in Gainesville and has been with the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) for over 25 years. He previously served as chief deputy and retired in 2007.

Following retirement, Gainey joined the Attorney General’s Office as the Director of Law Enforcement and Victim Services, briefly leaving to serve as Marion County interim sheriff in 2016. He retired from the Attorney General’s Office in 2020. Now, Gainey will fill the post of Alachua County sheriff until the 2024 election.

Mori Hosseini

UF board of trustees member Mori Hosseini was appointed to serve on the Space Florida board of directors. Hosseini was one of nine people chosen. Currently, he serves as Chair for the UF board of trustees and the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University board of trustees. He is also the chairperson and chief executive officer of ICI Homes. Hosseini received bachelor’s and master’s degrees, as well as an honorary doctorate from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

 

Rachel Cook

Rachel Cook has been promoted to assistant director for marketing & strategic communications for UF Online. Cook will be responsible for coordinating and managing strategic partnerships alongside UF Online’s athletic partnerships liaison, Laura Barnes. Previously, Cook worked as a director, sales manager, editor and communications consultant. Cook received a bachelor’s degree in journalism and political science from the University of Montana.
