What is something you wish you knew before moving here?
I wish I knew more about the natural areas. When I first moved to Gainesville, everyone spoke of Paynes [Prairie], the springs and [Devil’s] Millhopper, but I never knew just how close they were to me! It wasn’t until met a very adventurous friend that I was able to visit all these natural beauties right in our backyard! Ever since then, I have been spreading the word to all I meet.
What is your favorite local food?
My favorite local food is literally anything off of the menu from Southern Charm. I mean if you have not gone, it is a MUST! Make sure to ask for the fresh-made lemonade. It is light, fresh, just the right amount of sweetness, and tastes like summer in a cup! My newest fascination has been with Swamp Religion. They are a new food truck in Gainesville. Their shrimp and grits are simply divine!
Describe your ideal day in Greater Gainesville
My ideal day in Gainesville would be to start with a Brunch from Peach Valley. I frequent that place so much the manager knows my face! I will get the eggs breakfast, substitute toast for half French toast, eggs softly scrambled with grits. Yes, I have a “regular” order! My next stop would be a walk around the new Depot Plaza. I love that place! Plenty of places to sit, people-watch, and usually there is something going on there to keep me entertained. Then I would move on to one of the many food truck rallies we have had lately. Who doesn’t like food truck rallies?!? I will invite my friends and we would all have a great time. To end my day, I would catch a local play at the Star Center Theater. I have had the pleasure to attend many plays in the past. Being able to see the local talent on stage bring true joy to my heart and very entertaining!
