Santa Fe College President Dr. Paul Broadie is passionate about being part of the fabric of the Greater Gainesville community. He addresses academic and workforce needs by serving on the boards of CareerSource North Central Florida and the Greater Gainesville Chamber. Under the leadership of Dr. Paul Broadie, Santa Fe received the 2021 Simon Award for Comprehensive Internationalization from NAFSA: Association of International Educators, which recognizes overall excellence in internationalization efforts.
I chose to move from Connecticut to Gainesville two years ago to work at an institution that values the educational experience. When I read their mission statement was to “add value to the lives of our students and enrich our community through excellence in teaching and learning, innovative educational programs and student services and community leadership and service,” I knew this was where I wanted to be.
One of the things I love most about this area is that the people are friendly, caring and social. It is a community that embraces and cares for one another. When my wife and I relocated here, we were immediately welcomed. It has been enriching for us as individuals to attend arts, cultural and athletic events.
This caring atmosphere permeates into the university environment at University of Florida and Santa Fe College. As a college town, this is a highly educated area. I recommend students take the time to connect with their professors both inside and outside of the classroom.
I’ve heard from many who say their professors changed their life by helping them secure an internship or job interview. In this community, there are mentorship opportunities available and organizations focused on uplifting the lives of others. Many students decide to stay in the area after graduation. They find jobs, buy houses here and add to the economy.
It is a great community to raise a family. It is an ideal place to enjoy the outdoors and the richness of our beautiful state of Florida. My entire family loves Greater Gainesville. After my parents came to visit, they decided to relocate from New York. After experiencing many Northeast winters, I appreciate spending as much time as possible outdoors all year round.
