Where to watch football

The close of summer brings what is for many considered the most exciting time of the year: football season.

From the high school level to professional, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays quickly become holy days of obligation for disciples of the game. A truly American pastime, football is a community unifier, an opportunity for friendly rivalry and a reminder to kick back, relax and enjoy the fun of the sport.

Whether a Gator, a Seminole or a Hurricane, a Buccaneer, Jaguar or Dolphin fan or a follower of any of the hundreds of other gridiron greats from around the country, Greater Gainesville has many places to watch the game of choice.

Here are a few of the hottest local spots.

Gators Dockside

For good food, family-friendly fun, and hours upon hours of football viewing, visit Gators Dockside on Newberry Road. Although the name isn’t related to the University, this location, as well as its many others across the state attract many diehard Gator fans.

Mother’s Pub and Grill

Sports bars can get a little rowdy. Sometimes a smaller, more laidback atmosphere hits the spot. At this Irish-themed tavern, the doors will always be open on game days.

The Social at Midtown

A relative newcomer, this two-storied sports bar sits in the heart of Gator Nation. Many large TVs provide access to almost all available games. Modern and open, the Social will live up to its name, bringing people together to watch their favorite teams.

The Swamp – Ben E. Griffin Stadium

No list would be complete without the most obvious option for watching football: The Swamp. This hallowed ground of Florida football is the premier place to take in a game.

Feel the swell of adrenaline as tens of thousands of loyal fans and alumni attempt to break the sound barrier with every cheer, chant and song. An experience like no other awaits, and  it is higher definition than any television.
