Florida’s Nov. 8, 2022 general election will decide races for the U.S. House and Senate, as well as the state governor, state House and Senate and other state and local offices. The state’s primaries were on Aug. 23.
General Voting Information
Good news: All registered voters in Greater Gainesville can request a no-excuse vote-by-mail ballot and vote from home in November’s general election.
Early in-person voting: Voters can take a vote-by-mail ballot to a secure drop-box location or vote early and in person. Counties must open early voting by Oct. 29.
In-person voting on Election Day: The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 8. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Ballot Information
Governor: Rep. Charlie Crist (D); Incumbent Gov. Ron DeSantis (R)
Attorney general: Aramis Ayala (D); Incumbent Ashley Moody (R)
U.S. Senate: Rep. Val Demings (D); Incumbent Sen. Marco Rubio (R)
U.S. House: all 28 seats; Florida gained a seat in the House, as determined by population growth in the 2020 census.
State Senate: all 40 seats
State House: all 120 seats
Navigating Voter Registration
Online: Use the state’s voter registration portal to register, check registration status or change party affiliation. A Florida driver’s license or state-issued ID card is required. Otherwise, voters will need to print out and sign their registration form and mail it or take it to their local county supervisor of elections.
By mail: Print out a voter registration form, complete it and mail it to the assigned county supervisor of elections.
In-person: Go to the designated county supervisor of elections office to pick up, drop off or fill out a registration form. Forms are also available at public libraries and offices authorized by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The deadline to register was Oct.11. Florida residents can check if they are registered through the Florida voter information portal.
Where to Obtain a Mail-In Ballot?
Any registered voter can request a no-excuse vote-by-mail ballot for November’s general election. However, a new request must be submitted each year. Please note that vote-by-mail requests must be received by Oct. 29 at 5 p.m.
Voters can request a vote-by-mail ballot online, by mail, email, phone, fax or in person. Completed ballots must be returned by Election Day at 7 p.m.
Early Voting
Early voting varies by county. However, all counties must let voters cast ballots early and in person from Oct. 29 through Nov. 5. Check with the county supervisor of elections for times and locations closer to Election Day.
When is Election Day?
The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 8. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Use the state’s voter information portal to find a designated polling place in the Greater Gainesville area.
