The University of Florida is rising as one of the very best public research universities in the nation, reaching No. 6 among national public research universities in U.S. News & World Report’s 2020 “Best Colleges” annual rankings.
Founded as a land-grant institution, UF is committed to making a difference in the world — and that begins in its hometown of Gainesville. A dynamic and diverse university on 2,000 acres, UF has 16 colleges, hundreds of academic departments, and a major health care system, UF Health. The university also has a strong and growing research and innovation focus; in July, UF announced a $70 million research and education partnership in artificial intelligence with the Silicon Valley technology company NVIDIA.
UF is ranked No. 3 in the nation in the “best universities for technology transfer” by The Milken Institute, with UF Innovate spinning off technology companies with thousands of employees. The university is further a center of local and statewide culture, with a popular Cultural Plaza anchored by its signature Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, Harn Museum of Art, and Florida Museum of Natural History.
UF is proud of its intentional and intense comprehensiveness, with a strong legacy of both academic and athletic excellence. Indeed, UF athletics is the only university program to finish among the nation’s top 10 in each of the last 36 all-sports standings. Leveraging the power of collaboration with greater Gainesville, UF is working on many levels and in many disciplines to build an inclusive, creative, and prosperous future.
