The University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) is a federal-statecounty partnership dedicated to developing knowledge in agriculture, human and natural resources, and the life sciences. UF/IFAS fulfills the university’s land grant mission, working to enhance and sustain the quality of human life through its dozen-plus research facilities, Extension services offered in every Florida county, and top-ranked education at the UF College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.
As the pandemic shut down many operations throughout the state, UF/IFAS work could not be halted. Faculty developed innovative virtual programming, found ways to adapt to the new circumstances to maintain vital research, and continued to provide the support that Florida industries have come to rely upon.
UF/IFAS provides research and development for Florida’s agricultural, natural resources, and related food industries, which combined contributed $149.6 billion to the state economy in terms of value added in 2018, including multiplier effects.
