University of Florida Health Provides Exceptional Patient Care
UF Health, the Southeast’s premier academic health center, continues to grow its research and patient care presence in Gainesville and throughout the state. As part of the University of Florida, one of the nation’s Top 5 public research universities, we offer health care that combines innovative research with the latest clinical advances provided by outstanding providers and staff throughout our network of hospitals and physician offices. Our focus is compassionate care and world-class outcomes for everyone, no matter how simple or complex the illness.
Now, UF Health’s exceptional patient care will be available to more patients than ever. In June 2023, the UF Health Cancer Center earned National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation for cancer care, becoming just one of 72 cancer centers nationally to receive the recognition. This significant milestone was achieved due to the institution’s positive impacts on patients, the community and the significant advances in research and discovery. NCI designation is a prestigious recognition granted only to select cancer centers in the United States that meet rigorous criteria for excellence in innovative treatments and clinical trials.
Earlier this year, UF Health broke ground on a new urgent care center for East Gainesville. The center, scheduled to open in mid-2024, will feature eight examination rooms, two procedure rooms,
an X-ray area and a community room. It is expected to be open seven days a week and will offer evening hours.
UF Health also launched the first of its fleet of mobile stroke treatment units. This specialized ambulance is equipped to speed diagnosis and treatment during the early stages of a stroke. Several units will be deployed throughout the state.
UF Health, in collaboration with the University of Florida, opened a new and expanded Student Health Care Center to meet the health care needs of UF students. Further expansion includes new operating rooms at UF Health Shands Hospital, creating more access to routine and advanced surgical care.
Providing care to the community also includes a significant economic benefit, with new job opportunities available locally. UF Health opened a new sterile processing center, expected to create more full-time jobs in the future.
