Gardens 

  • 55% of U.S. households (71.5 million) have a garden 
  • The average size of a garden in the U.S. is 600 square feet, while the median garden size is 96 square feet 
  • The City of Gainesville began its first Community Gardens Project at Southeast Fourth Avenue in 1998  
  • Since that time, the program has grown to 5 gardens around Gainesville through the joint efforts of the City of Gainesville’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department and the dedicated efforts of the residents of Gainesville 

Spring Cleaning  

  • 74% of U.S. residents partake in spring cleaning every year 
  •  5% never do spring cleaning, as of 2023 
  • Among those who spring clean, survey findings show Americans focus their targeted hygiene practices on the kitchen (64%), bedrooms (61%) and bathrooms (59%)  
  • With 109,639 cleaning companies, Florida has the second highest number of businesses in the Janitorial Services industry in the United States 

Home Sales 

  • There were 2,959 total residential sales in Gainesville in 2023 
  • As of January 30, 2024, there were 1,745 homes for sale in Alachua County, ranging from $4.6 thousand to $7 million 

Home Improvement 

  • 55% of homeowners report renovating a part of their home in the past year, with kitchen renovations and bathroom remodeling listed as the most popular projects 
  • Home improvement sales are expected to reach over $620 billion in 2025
