Local Coffee Shops: Taste the Beans


Located in Butler Plaza, Bay Islands Coffee Company is a quaint little hut serving an expansive menu of coffee, teas and lemonades, smoothies, baked goods and breakfast sandwiches. Bay Islands’ menu extends to customers’ four-legged companions as well, with dog treats available. With a drive through for drink and food and a walk-up window for beverages, the island-themed shack is open for business from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.


Located closer to the heart of downtown, Café Bustelo is a new and bright place to grab a warm cup of coffee. Open from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day, Bustelo’s hours fit almost any schedule. With staff that handmakes coffee and endless places to get comfortable, it is no wonder why this coffee shop only has great reviews.


Known for their outstanding customer service and warm, welcoming atmosphere, Coffee Culture is a java joint located just off of 13th Street. With a variety of indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a drive through for customers on the go, CC serves consistently high-quality coffee with creative monthly seasonal flavors. The shop also offers a variety of pastries to an adoring customer base every day from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.


A hot spot for students, Concord Coffee is a relatively new, modern coffee shop known for their fun drinks and flavors, as well as their bright, two-story interior perfect for a cute coffee date or a day of work. Located on University Avenue, Concord hopes to connect with a community of coffee lovers by crafting a perfect brew for each customer from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.


Known as the 6th Street Oasis, Curia on the Drag offers coffee, tea, alcoholic beverages, baked goods and desserts from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on a 2.5-acre property. Curia is recognized widely for its beautiful outdoor setting and picturesque views. In addition to delicious baked goods, grab-and-go meals and wide variety of beverages, Curia On The Drag has a food truck open from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. serving the most delicious and creative vegan meals. Stay late enough on the weekends and enjoy Dad’s Bar in the back of Curia, which serves alcoholic beverages in a fun and colorful bar.


An extension of Urban Thread, Harper’s Corner is a beloved local coffee joint and event venue just off of N.W. 21st Avenue. Patrons can enjoy a comprehensive menu of coffee, tea, creative signature drinks and baked goods from the little shop. Harper’s Corner’s cozy and relaxed atmosphere makes it a perfect spot for studying and doing work. The shop is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.


Just on the edge of University, Karma Cream is home to vegan ice cream and sandwiches that are always a hit. Open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and serving a plethora of non-vegan and vegan options, Karma Cream is bound to satisfy any and all taste buds.


A Gainesville classic located downtown, Maude’s is a local coffeehouse with an artsy atmosphere. The eclectic shop offers a vast array of dishes, baked goods and fun desserts named after celebrities, as well as ample indoor and outdoor seating. A comfy nook located on N.W. 16th Street, Pascal’s is a Christian-centered cafe serving coffee and pastries from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Pascal’s is loved widely by students for its cozy two-story interior, complete with a fireplace and warm-toned string lights strung across the first floor. Known for friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere, Pascal’s is a perfect place to hunker down with a good book on a rainy day.

Whether in Tioga or in Haile, both communities host a Patticakes location open from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. to soothe over morning habits or afternoon yawns.
