By getting to know her clients on a personal level, Ameriprise financial advisor Karen Harvey helps them to manage their financial concerns for today so that they can pursue a more confident tomorrow.
For the past 20 years, Harvey has focused on helping clients organize their financial lives. The cornerstone of her approach is developing custom financial plans and then helping clients stick to those plans. Harvey can work with clients to design a budget, determine appropriate cash reserves, develop a portfolio to address asset allocations to match their risk tolerance, and the amount of savings necessary to meet their financial goals.
Harvey decided to come to Ameriprise Financial because she admires how the company, which is now 120 years old, strategically approaches putting clients’ needs first.
“We have to do what is suitable for each client. But that’s not enough. We also choose to do what is in their best interest. That is essential to developing a plan tailored for each individual,” Harvey said.
Planning & Prioritizing
Harvey’s clients range from recent college grads to retirees, although most are in their mid-forties and above. People in that age group often come to her with an arsenal of questions:
- How should I prepare for retirement?
- When should I start saving for my child’s college education?
- Can I afford to financially help my elderly parents?
- How much life insurance do I need?
- Do I need long-term care insurance?
The list goes on, and it can seem overwhelming.
Helping her clients to prioritize what they should focus on allows Harvey to give them a better idea of what they need to do, when they need to do it, and how they can get it done in a manner helps them stay on track to achieve their financial goals.
“We look at each client’s entire financial life,” she said.
“Clients often expect financial advisors to have experience with investment diversification, but tax diversification is also an important focus,” she said.
Years of Stability
Integrity has been a core value of Ameriprise since it was founded in 1894, and the company attributes that to its history of weathering every financial storm from the Great Depression to the recent Great Recession. Not only has Ameriprise weathered the storms; it has grown into a global financial leader.
As a result, Ameriprise has never taken a bailout. And, it has never lost its focus on its clients.
“Not only did the company prepare for its own needs and was therefore able to manage through many crises, but Ameriprise has always honored its financial obligations to clients.
Community Participation
Harvey entered into the financial services industry in 1992 and joined Ameriprise Financial four years ago.
