In the Details

You’ve finally found it, the perfect Christmas tree. You take it home, set it up, and are ready to go! But wait, you still have to decorate it! Here at Keith Watson we believe in making a statement with your decor, and we’re happy to share these tips on how to decorate your Christmas tree like a professional designer.

Simple Ornaments vs. High-end Ornaments
Use inexpensive, simple ornaments, like those from a craft store, to make your tree fuller, then use your more expensive, high-end ornaments towards the outer part of your tree. These one-of-a-kind ornaments should be able to be seen by your family and friends. Make sure to wire them to your tree so they don’t fall and break!

Metallic and Reflective Ornaments
Metallic and reflective ornaments make great accent pieces, even if they’re just simple ornaments. By putting reflective ornaments inside your tree, it will help give depth and dimension to your tree (especially when the Christmas lights come on). Reflective, one-of-a-kind ornaments are also an amazing way to draw someone’s eye to a specific part of your tree. What’s Christmas without a little sparkle?

Play With Sizes
Don’t use just one sized ornament; make sure you use many different sizes. It can be different types of ornaments in different sizes, or the same type in different sizes. Size variation not only helps take up space, but it also helps you find “resting” points for your eyes. This is where you begin finding the right balance between a pretty tree and a designer tree.

Ribbons
Ribbon is the perfect way to give your tree a dramatic flair! Choosing the right ribbon or mixture of ribbons can really tie your look together. Wired ribbon can add so many new dimensions to your tree, and help create a luxurious, cohesive look.

Use Picks and Other Accents
Picks are a great way to give your tree more depth and texture. They are a cluster of objects, such as flowers and leaves, which are held together with wire. Picks make a great addition to any tree, and can be anything from holly berries to poinsettias to antlers. Other accents to consider can be things such as pearl strands, pinecones, birds and more.
