Gimmick-Free Weight Loss

I’m often at a loss for words when intelligent adults are convinced that they need to purchase pills, shakes, supplements, wraps and other items to lose weight and be healthy. Ridiculous! Achieving a healthy weight is simple. Still not convinced? Let’s analyze some information…

  • Suppose you are stranded on an island with only fruits, vegetables and grilled chicken available to eat. Would you lose weight? Of course you would!
  • Wouldn’t the richest celebrities all have great bodies if a “miracle” shake, pill or wrap truly existed? Yes, they would.
  • A “health professional” who truly has your wellbeing as the number one interest in his or her heart will teach you to eat wisely, to eat REAL food and to exercise often instead of offering quick weight-loss “solutions.”
  • Your body needs calories to provide enough energy to pump your blood, expand your lungs, digest your food and support brain function. No adult should have to subsist on 500 calories a day. That’s considered “extreme dieting” and it is harmful to your entire body.
  • Have you ever heard that you “can’t exercise” until you’ve lost a certain amount of weight? This INFURIATES ME! Exercise makes you strong, flexible and enhances your endurance. Exercise should be a staple in your life, especially when you’re trying to slim down.

So now that we’ve examined the idiocy of scams and myths, I urge you to not fall prey to those selling modern-day versions of snake oil. Instead:

  • Eat conscientiously
  • Don’t consume too much.
  • Exercise often.

You don’t have to run marathons; you just have to MOVE! Dance, swim, walk, wrestle or lift weights – whatever you like. Move your body in a way that makes it sweaty for 45-90 minutes a day and you’ll become part of the “fit” crowd.

You can lose weight for free. You don’t need a diet, and you don’t need a “miracle solution.” In fact, you should be offended by those who attempt to steal your money by suggesting you should try anything other than healthy eating and exercise.

Just for the record, I’m 45 pounds less than I was in high school and I got here without anything gimmicky. I unlearned the poor eating habits I was raised with, adopted wise ones, and have never looked back. Getting to your ideal weight can pose challenges, especially if your habits are – or were – bad. But the formula for true fitness is always simple and shouldn’t cost you anything more than a pair of sneakers…and possibly a sports bra too!
