Greater Gainesville’s Fourth of July Festivities

From patriotic parades to powerful pyrotechnics, festivities for the Fourth kick off on July 3 in Greater Gainesville (GG). Whether the focus is food and music or explosive entertainment, here is a list of places hosting America’s birthday party.

Gainesville fireworks

For decades, thousands of spectators have flocked to the Flavet Field Bandshell for Gainesville’s annual “Fanfares & Fireworks.” On July 3, this highly anticipated summer tradition commences at 6 p.m. with food trucks and musical performances by The Martin Family Band, Bears and Lions, Sooza Brass Band, Gainesville Community Band and the Gainesville “POPS” under the direction of Gary Langford. Fireworks begin around 9:40 p.m. but be sure to arrive in time to scout out prime viewing real estate.

Gainesville parade

Bouncers, Gainesville’s indoor playground, located on 34th avenue is inviting kids of all ages to come show off their patriotic pedals at their Fourth of July Bike Parade. Decorated scooters, bikes and strollers are all welcome to participate in this safe, fun, family event from 9 a.m. to noon. The three most patriotic sets of wheels will win a prize.

Alachua fireworks and festivities

Deemed “the largest small-town fireworks display in America,” the 22nd annual Fourth of July Celebration at Legacy Park Amphitheater in the City of Alachua will take place on Monday, July 4. Activities for the kids in the Kids’ Corner will run from 4-7 p.m., live music from 6-9 p.m., and fireworks will be blasting off from 9:30-10 p.m. Parking and entrance are free for this family-friendly event.

Archer fireworks and festivities

What better way to show a love for both summer and America than with an apple pie and watermelon eating contest? Venture into the City of Archer to join the Fourth of July fun for their Independence Day celebration, “Red White and Boom.” Starting at 2 p.m., this event is complete with live music, artisan and craft vendors, food, a kid zone and a sunset firework show.

Micanopy parade and fireworks

The Town of Micanopy will host their annual Independence Day celebration on July 4. The parade will kick off the festivities at 11 a.m. in the beautiful, historic downtown area with bounce house fun and food trucks to follow from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Fireworks will run from 8:45-9:45 p.m.

Melrose parade

Looking to spend the Fourth on the water? Head over to Lake Santa Fe Park in Melrose for the annual Lake Santa Fe Boat Parade. Various boats rocking red, white and blue will proudly parade around the lake beginning at 11 a.m. Find a seat on a dock to watch or grab a skiff and participate.

Cedar Key fireworks

Just outside of GG is the charming town of Cedar Key. Not just known for their delicious clams and breathtaking sunsets, Cedar Key’s Independence Day celebration is considered one of the best fireworks shows in Florida. Head over to watch this spectacular firework display light up the western sky at 9:15 p.m.
