Leadership Gainesville Alumni Association, or LGAA, launched more than 25 years ago as a way to channel the experiences and opportunities participants gained from the Chamber’s Leadership Gainesville yearlong program into ongoing, positive efforts that benefit our entire area. The organization has grown and evolved, but our mission stays the same: improving the quality of life of members and community through leadership development, collaboration and active community involvement.
This year, we’re focused on enhancing some of our group’s already great programming:
Our Power Lunch presentations offer our members even more opportunities to learn about and have an impact on a wide range of key issues and hot topics affecting our community.
Our Leadership Development series continues to bring to our area engaging and experienced experts who offer new insights and timeless truths about serving others through stronger and more effective leadership.
Our Scholarship Program supports both individuals in this year’s class of Leadership Gainesville as well as other LG alumni as they continue to develop through statewide leadership programs such as Connect Florida.
And, our LGAA Mini-Grant Program adds even more to the $26,000-plus we’ve already donated to local non-profits including Gainesville Fisher House, American Cancer Society, Junior League of Gainesville’s Miracle on Main Street, Buchholz High School’s Academy of Entrepreneurship, March of Dimes, Peaceful Paths and many, many more.
With these and other great offerings, our hope is to grow member engagement and involvement in the coming year. There is a huge network of individuals in Gainesville who share the Leadership Gainesville experience. We have fond memories. We wear our colors with pride (GO BLUE!). We made strong connections with our classmates and our community. This year, we want to make sure that we’re impacting all of our alumni — inspiring those who remember the experience well and reminding all of us just how much LG meant and how much LGAA has to offer.
If you’ve never been a part of Leadership Gainesville, we highly recommend it! And, if you’re already an alumnus, we encourage you to get more involved. Join the Community Relations Council and help select our next grant recipients. Serve on the Community Action Council and help us identify the important issues our area needs to discuss and debate. Take part in the membership and communications councils and help us make sure we all stay committed and connected to one another and this great community.
We want to hear from our members to make sure we are still providing the right opportunities, in the right way.
