Book Review – “Originals: How Non-Conformists Move The World”

Dispelling the conventional notions of what it means to be a member of our current economic society, “Originals: How Non-Conformists Move the World” seeks to define what it means to be an “original” and how a sense of originality has manifested itself within some of the most successful people in the world. In his book, Wharton professor Adam Grant successfully dives into the minds of both employees and entrepreneurs alike to study how originality impacts job performance and happiness on every level of the corporate hierarchy. Stressing the importance of originality that stems from viewing a familiar world or situation in an unfamiliar way, Grant makes the argument that to be an original propelling the world forward, risk-taking is inevitable…but not to the same degree most would imagine. Through case studies, Originals draws connections from the shared underlying personality traits of entrepreneurs and touches upon how originality has allowed them to break free of the social constraints placed within their own minds and think, surprisingly, inside of the box — but from a completely new perspective. Readers will find Originals to be a call to action, propelling them toward taking the road less traveled in hopes of conquering their domains and accomplishing just what the title suggests — moving the world forward.

“Originals is one of the most important and captivating books I have ever read, full of surprising and powerful ideas. It will not only change the way you see the world; it might just change the way you live your life. And it could very well inspire you to change your world.”
