There is a new type of mother in town, and she does not want the usual grocery–store tulips or drugstore candy. It is time to think  and give mom something unique and unconventional. WHERE TO TAKE HER

Painting with a Twist

Grab a bottle of mom’s favorite wine and take her painting! This interactive experience is a fun way get some  quality time with mom while letting your creative juices flow. Each instructor-led, two-hour session costs $38 per person. With the first session beginning at 1 p.m., several time slots are available throughout the day, and subject matter is dependent on the session. Take your masterpieces home to show off your artistic abilities and the fun day you had.

Shoot GTR

Looking for something exciting to do on Mother’s Day? Pull the trigger on this unique experience. Take mom for a day at the shooting range and do a little target practice. Shoot GTR, Gainesville Target Range, is open every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Shooters new to GTR must first fill out a waiver and then attend a one-time, 30-minute orientation before shooting. Orientations run twice daily, at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Mom can bring her own firearm or rent one from the facility’s artillery.  A day at the range costs $24 per person, and reservations are not required.

Red, White and Blueberry Farm

It is blueberry season, so grab your mom, grab your bucket and hit the bushes. With 100 acres of family owned and operated blueberry-lined fields and beautiful sunflower patches, Red, White and Blueberry Farm is the perfect way to spend Mother’s Day. After the buckets are full, relax with mom in a wooden rocking chair while listening to live music. This experience is great for the entire family, with food, beer and other beverages provided by their charming on-site restaurant and a play area for children. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

WHAT TO BUY MOM

Blackadder Brewing Company

For the craft brew loving mama, get her a beer-inspired gift basket from this local brewery.
