“I love living in Gainesville. It’s small enough to have the intimacy of a college town, but large enough that you don’t really lack anything. The energy that the University students bring to the city and the range of cultural activities make Gainesville truly vibrant and exciting. The proximity to beautiful natural springs and parks provide an excellent opportunity for a balanced lifestyle. People are also very friendly and welcoming, which makes it easy to fit in.” —

“I moved back to Gainesville after graduating from UF and being away for about five years. I was excited to return, not only because of my love for UF and an amazing professional opportunity, but also because Gainesville has been developing over the last few years. Many friends who visit after being away are surprised at how the city has grown, while still maintaining many aspects of its unique identity and community feel. Gainesville has its staple traditions, as well as new developments.

I enjoy the amenities of the city, including great restaurants, fitness centers, nice people and an exceptional educational institution with a dynamic athletic program, exciting shows and performances and world-class academics. I’m originally from Tampa, and appreciate that my hometown isn’t extremely busy like major cities in the U.S. Now, this is why I enjoy living in Gainesville because it has everything that I need, without the crowd and congestion of a big city. I also love how Gainesville is close to several major cities, beaches and attractions. This provides a nice outlet to explore the state without going too far away from home. St. Augustine Beach is a personal favorite.

Overall, returning to Gainesville has been a great decision. I’m doing work that I love, pursuing my Ph.D. part-time and live in a place that has what I need professionally, academically and personally.”
